Ben reflects on Day 2 of the Extreme Sailing Series in Trapani

Oman Air continued to make an impact on the fleet today, on the second day of racing with the team’s new skipper, Ben Ainslie, (GBR).

Despite a problem with their gennaker, the sail at the front of the boat, during race one, and further problems later in the day with the traveller, a device that allows the sailors to change the position of the mainsheet, the team finish the day on fifth place, 11.5 points shy of Groupe Edmond de Rothschild (FRA).

Ben Ainslie, reflects on the day, and feels like there is a lot to be improved.

“Today we had more wind then yesterday and the racing was very exciting. Unfortunately we had a couple of misfortunes with technical aspects onboard which cost us a few positions. We tried some different tactics and strategies and we are learning a lot as a team.

Tomorrow’s racing in the harbour is going to be very difficult and a new challenge for me, but we are learning all the time and we can see where improvements can be made.”
